Fuengirola, Malaga, 19th June 2024 - Today, Wednesday 19th June 2024, the forum "Elite Sport and Sports Tourism" is being held at the prestigious Embassy Training Center, located at Higuerón Resort in Fuengirola, Malaga. The conference, promoted by SIE, Spain is Excellence and moderated by its Andalusia manager, Sandra Grana, has focused on the union of synergies between elite sport and sports tourism, promoting excellence in both fields.
The event has counted with the outstanding participation of the basketball world champion, Berni Rodríguez, who has shared his experiences and perspectives in the same basketball courts of the maximum performance centre. The discussion focused on sports whose impact is more sustained and powerful at the level of capillarisation to the economy, in line with the values of excellence promoted by the SIE Club.
Football, indisputably one of the great representatives of our country, generates an enormous economic return and promotes Spain's image internationally. The forum addresses other sports that attract a high-impact client profile, both internationally and nationally.
At the forum, different speakers gave their views on golf and the recent Solheim Cup, and shared their opinions on major sporting events such as the recent Formula 1 Off Shore Electric E1 to be held in June 2024 in Puerto Banús, being part of an international circuit, and the America's Cup regatta in Barcelona in October 2024.
Another highlight of the forum was the work-life balance and the growing demand for top-level sports facilities, exemplifying current trends in sports tourism and their link to exclusive and personalised experiences.
The forum highlighted the unstoppable growth of sports tourism, which is positioned as the fastest growing type of tourism. Public bodies have played a crucial role in supporting and promoting major sporting events, which serve as a lever for many other projects in the future. These events are also a seedbed for schools and sports centres in tennis, sailing, golf and basketball, breeding grounds for future talent which, in turn, feed back into the excellence and growth of the quality of sport.
