Carlos Pérez Siquier in the photography collections of Fundación MAPFRE

Within the photography collections of MAPFRE FoundationThe project, which began in 2007, includes the work of Carlos Pérez Siquier (Almería, 1930-2021). His production, like that of the other authors in these collections, reflects the institution's firm commitment to the preservation and dissemination of contemporary visual history.

Pérez Siquier is a fundamental figure in the history of Spanish photography. He began his career by documenting the humble life of the Almeria neighbourhood of La ChancaThis work marked the beginning of a career deeply linked to his immediate environment.

Subsequently, his gaze turned towards the mass tourism on the beaches near the city of Almería, which he portrayed through an anthropological and ironic approach, always with sensitivity and humour. Throughout a prolific career spanning more than sixty years, from which he never strayed far from his native city, the photographer evolved in terms of themes and visual languages.

Although his work moved from black-and-white to colour, he always maintained a strong coherenceHis work is focused on the real and the close-up, with an innovative and personal gaze. This continuity makes his work an essential reference for understanding photography both as an artistic expression and as a social document.

Carlos Pérez Siquier's images are not only art: they also constitute a visual testimony to Spain's social and cultural transformationfully aligned with Fundación MAPFRE's mission to preserve and disseminate contemporary cultural heritage.
