At a key moment for the international positioning of the Spain brand, the SIE Awards for Excellence are consolidated as a fundamental initiative of Spain Is Excellence. More than just a gala, these awards recognise the work of those who represent the best of the country in sectors such as tourism, gastronomy, culture and business, both within and beyond our borders. This annual recognition reflects SIE's commitment to quality, elegance and national talent. To better understand what is behind these awards, we talked to Ana Alonso, CEO of SIE, who shares with us the vision, values and projection of this unique event.

Interview with Ana Alonso, CEO of Spain Is Excellence

What exactly are the SIE Excellence Awards and what is their main purpose?

The SIE Excellence Awards are an award that we present to companies, institutions or individuals who represent the Spain brand in an excellent way beyond our borders and who help to position Spain as the destination of excellence that it is.

How has SIE evolved to reach these awards?

SIE has evolved to reach these awards with a lot of effort, with the trust of our members, with the evolution of the company, making us the only certifier of tourism excellence in the country and with the conviction that we have to position our country as the destination of excellence that it truly is.

What makes the SIE Awards unique in today's world?

The SIE awards are the only recognition focused on giving value and positioning Spain as a tourism destination of excellence.

Why was the Rosewood Villa Magna chosen as the venue?

The Rosewood Villa Magna is SIE Laurel and this year we have chosen this unique and very special place to celebrate the most important event we have at Spain Is Excellence, which is the SIE Excellence Awards.

How are the winners selected?

The winners are selected on the basis of the impact of their personal, institutional or company brand on the national scene. We measure a series of parameters that the jury has a period of time before the meeting to select them. Each member of the jury submits their proposals and, from there, we meet, each of these proposals is defended, some nominees are left and the final vote is taken on the winner in each category.

What is the role of the jury in this process?

The role of the jury in this process is fundamental to the rigour of the decisions. It is made up of a group of professionals, each expert in their own field, who have helped us to select the perfect candidates and, in the end, the winners who will receive the award on 9 June.

What impact do you think this recognition will have on the laureates?

The impact I hope this award will have on the winners is responsibility. That they assume how important they are for our country, for the quality tourism we receive, that approach that they are probably not aware of how they impact on the decision of a quality traveller. And I hope that they assume that responsibility and that they continue to be ambassadors of the Spain brand for a long time.

What are the values that SIE seeks to highlight with these awards?

The values we seek to highlight in these awards are the same values that generate the pillars of our company, of Spain Is Excellence, which are: YES to Spain, YES to Elegance, YES to Education, YES to Ethics, YES to the Extraordinary, YES to the Exceptional and YES to Excellence.

How does excellence in tourism, gastronomy and culture influence the Spain brand?

In the end, a quality tourist, which we seek to attract, influences society as a whole. And in this part of gastronomy and culture, in the end this traveller really understands the destination in all its capacities and values it.

What role do sponsors play in these awards?

For us, the sponsors are fundamental, because in the end we all bring together what we want to point out about these awards. Each of our sponsors is with us for a reason within their company and, without a doubt, they are all linked to the same values of excellence as Spain Is Excellence.

What is the vision for the future of the SIE Awards?

The vision for the future of the SIE Awards is to create an army of ambassadors who will look after our brand, who will protect our country so that we can welcome that quality traveller who understands the value and culture of our country in all its dimensions.

If you had to define the SIE Awards in three words, what would they be?

If I had to define the awards in three words (which is a bit complicated) it would be: excellence, union and projection.

A purposeful recognition

The SIE Awards are not only a celebration of success, but also a powerful tool to to reinforce Spain's image as an international benchmark of excellence, talent and sophistication.. In the words of Ana Alonso, these awards seek to build a solid community of ambassadors committed to the Spain brand, capable of influencing the global perception of the country and attracting a conscious, demanding and culturally involved traveller.

With a rigorous selection of award winners, a top-level jury and the backing of institutions and companies that share the values of excellence, the SIE Awards mark a before and after in the way we celebrate the best of our country. They are an invitation to continue working for a Spain that inspires, that shines and that leaves its mark beyond its borders.
